Mobile time tracking apps

Mobile time tracking apps

Employees clock in using their mobile phones at the start of the day, switch job codes throughout the day as they change projects, and clock out after dropping off equipment at the end of the day.

Job costing

Job costing

Create job codes for each project you want to track and assign them to employees. Employees select the right job code when clocking in, and you get access to detailed reports showing project labor hours.

Geofencing

Geofencing

Set up geofences — virtual location-based perimeters — to ensure employees can only punch in and out when they’re at a job site. Connect your geofences to your job codes for effortless job costing.

GPS tracking

GPS tracking

Log employees’ locations when they clock in and out, or track them in real-time the whole time they’re on the clock. See where everyone is located on a map, and view breadcrumb trails of their travels.

Multi-language interface

Frequently asked questions

There are many ways that Buddy Punch can help you become DCAA compliant, but be aware that every single one of your employees is responsible for tracking their time correctly, so you will also need to provide regular training to ensure they comply with the regulations. We currently do not offer daily time submission reminders.

Please refer to a legal adviser specializing in DOL and DCAA regulations regarding specific requirements of the regulations and how they impact your business. Buddy Punch is not claiming to ensure you meet all requirements of such regulations.

While we don’t have a formal feature for tracking mileage, employees can enter a note whenever they punch in/out, switch between jobs, or start/end a break. These notes will appear on the employee’s time card and some of our reporting options like the In/Out Activity Report. You could potentially use that for whatever your business needs are.

We also have something called Department Codes that might help you here as well. If you create Department Codes and assign them to employees, whenever they punch in, they have to choose which Department Code they are punching into (as long as they are assigned two or more codes).

Potentially, you could create two Department Codes, one called Regular Time and another called Mileage. An employee would start the day under Regular Time and switch to Mileage while on the road. When you run reports, you can see the time spent under Mileage, along with any notes entered.

We don’t offer workers’ compensation insurance. You’d have to obtain that separately and then tell us the rate. That rate is then used in your payroll calculations.

No. Employees must have either a cell phone signal or Wi-Fi connection to clock in and out using Buddy Punch. However, we do support duration entry — entering hours into timecards manually — which is a good alternative option when you have crews working in rural locations with no cell service.

Yes. You can add multiple pay rates for employees and assign those pay rates to different job codes. When an employee clocks in and selects a job code that’s been attached to a prevailing wage rate, your payroll reports will automatically apply the prevailing wage rate to the hours worked on that project.

If for some reason your crew members can’t download the Buddy Punch app on their phones, we have several alternative options. You can have a site foreman clock all employees in or out at once, you can use a tablet to create a portable time clock kiosk, or the employee can send a text message to clock in and out.
