Buddy Punch Product Updates: October 2026 Edition

At Buddy Punch, we continually ship new features, improvements, and fixes based on what we hear from customers. Here’s a rundown of everything we added to the product in October 2026.

Child support payments report

Child Support Payments report

If you’re an administrator using Buddy Punch Payroll, you can download a child support payments report for any date range in the Buddy Punch web app. You’ll find it at “Payroll” → “Reports” → “Child Support Payments.”

The file downloads as a CSV named child_support_payments.csv, with a row for every child support payment withheld in that range. It shows details such as the payment amount, agency, trace number, expected completion date, and status. It only reflects child support orders that have been added to a worker’s payroll profile as a post-tax deduction. If no child support payments were withheld during the date range you select, the file still downloads, but it will contain only the column headings and no rows.

See the setup steps for the child support payments report.

Punch blocked alert

Punch Blocked Alert

A new punch blocked alert under “Settings” → “Alerts & Reminders” notifies managers or administrators by email, push notification, or both when an employee’s punch attempt is blocked.

It triggers for a geofence, punch limiting rule, IP address lock, or device lock. If a punch fails for any other reason, the employee is still told why, but managers and admins aren’t notified.

See the setup steps for the punch blocked alert.

Offline mode

Offline Mode

Offline mode lets signed-in employees punch in and out, enter a specific time, start and end a break, and switch shifts in the Buddy Punch mobile app when they lose their connection, then syncs that activity once the device reconnects. Turn it on for the whole account under “Settings” → “Account Settings” with “Allow Employees to use the Mobile App offline.” Offline mode is available on the Pro and Advanced plans.

Offline mode only works when using the mobile app — not kiosk punches or punches in the web app. Employees must already be signed in to Buddy Punch to use offline mode. They can close the app, but signing out while offline clears any punches that haven’t synced yet.

If synced data shows an employee punching in when they’re already punched in, Buddy Punch closes the synced punch and flags it for your approval on their time card.

See the setup steps for offline mode.

Manager permissions by group

Manager permissions by Group

You can now assign a manager permissions over an entire group of employees at once. You set this one manager at a time, and it covers time, scheduling, and availability permissions.

Set it from the manager’s profile: “Employees” page, “View,” “Groups,” then “Edit Group Assignments.” Groups themselves are created under “Settings” → “Groups.”

See the setup steps for assigning a manager permissions over a group.

Multiple pay period schedules

Multiple pay period schedules

You can create additional pay period schedules on the same account, each with its own schedule name, pay period frequency, and pay period schedule start date. You’ll find “+ Add Pay Period Schedule” on “Settings” → “Pay Periods.”

Move employees to an alternate schedule from their profile using the “Pay Period Schedules” dropdown in the “Punch & Entry Rules” section. Only alternate schedules can be deleted, and only once no employees are assigned to them. The default pay period schedule can only be edited.

QuickBooks payroll hours categorization

QuickBooks payroll hours categorization

This update improves the existing QuickBooks Online integration. You can now map Buddy Punch time to the matching QuickBooks payroll items for “Regular,” “Overtime,” “Double Time,” and individual “Time Off Types,” so categorized hours go to QuickBooks Online rather than as one lump sum. Set mappings for individual employees or as an account default with “Map Payroll Items” at “Settings” → “Integrations,” then “Integrate with QuickBooks Online.”

The integration requires an Essentials, Plus, or Advanced QuickBooks Online subscription (these are QuickBooks Online tiers) and does not support the Australian or UK versions. Time can only be sent for people marked as “Employees” in QuickBooks, not “Vendors” or “Contractors”/”1099 workers.” Once you Export to QuickBooks Online, you cannot export the same hours again.

Bulk resend welcome emails

Bulk resend welcome emails

You can now select multiple employees on the “Employees” page and click “Resend Welcome Email” in the toolbar. Resending resets the password of every selected employee, and a pop-up shows how many you selected before you confirm with “Yes, I understand.”

The email includes login credentials (username and password), next steps, and details for contacting the administrator.

See the setup steps for resending Welcome Emails in bulk.

Bulk change overtime type

Bulk change overtime type

You can change the overtime type for several employees at once, or apply a single overtime type to all employees, from the “Update Existing Employee Overtime” screen under “Settings” → “Overtime.” After you save and confirm the pop-up, Buddy Punch recalculates overtime for the current pay period.

If you need overtime for a previous pay period recalculated, or you think current hours aren’t calculated correctly under the new rule, reach out to our support team.

See the setup steps for updating overtime for multiple employees.

Bulk time off approval settings

Bulk time off approval settings

You can now set whether time off requests require approval for every employee on the account at once. Go to “Settings” → “Time Off,” then “Require Approval” in the left side menu, and choose “Require Approval for All Employees” or “Don’t Require Approval for Any Employees.” It’s all or none — not a way to pick specific employees.

You’ll be asked to confirm, since this overrides the setting on each employee’s profile. Approval can also be set one employee at a time from each employee’s profile.

See the setup steps for bulk time off approval.

Bulk employee time zone update

Bulk employee time zone update

You can now set every existing employee’s time zone to the account time zone in one step, using the “Set all Employees to this Time Zone” button in “Settings” → “Account Settings.” You’ll be asked to confirm, since this replaces the time zone on every employee’s profile. Confirm the time zone shown is the one you want applied and that it has been saved.

Time zones can only be managed by account administrators, and an employee can only have a single time zone at a time.

See the setup steps for bulk employee time zone updates.

Activity log report

activity log report in buddy punch

Administrators on the Pro and Advanced plans can now see every change made to employee time in one report, instead of opening each time card’s revision history one by one. You’ll find it at “Reports” → “Activity Log,” where you can filter by employee, who made the change, department, change type, and date range.

Each row is one change, such as a punch edit, manual entry, break, time off entry, or approval. It shows when the change happened, whose time it affected, who made it, and a plain-English description of what changed (for example, a punch in time moving from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.). Click “View” on any row to open that employee’s time card for the pay period.

Deletions get their own row, changes to approved time cards are included, and the report covers history from before it was released. You can export it as a CSV, Excel file, or PDF, or print it.

The report updates every five minutes, so a change you just made may take a few minutes to appear.

Send any report on a schedule

Interface for creating a scheduled report in Buddy Punch

All of Buddy Punch’s reports can now be sent to desired recipients on a schedule. Choose the format (PDF, Excel, or CSV), recipients, how often they’re sent (weekly, every two weeks, or monthly), and the day and time. A delivery log shows when each report went out.

To create a scheduled report, open the report you want to send on a schedule in Buddy Punch, then click the “Schedule this report” button.
