Buddy Punch Product Updates: 2025 Edition
At Buddy Punch, we continually ship new features, improvements, and fixes based on what we hear from customers. Here’s a rundown of everything we added to the product in 2025.
Delete unused location, department, and position codes
Administrators can now delete unused location, department, and position codes from Buddy Punch. Deleting unused codes helps keep the account organized and stops those codes from appearing in schedules, punches, or reports.
Only Administrators can delete a code, and only when it’s unused. It can’t have been applied to an employee’s time card or a published shift, and a code assigned to a geofence may also block deletion. If you don’t see the delete option, the code is likely in use or assigned to a geofence.
You’ll find this under “Settings,” then “Locations,” “Department Codes,” or “Positions.” An administrator who set up a code that is no longer used can delete it there. See the steps for deleting an unused Location, Department, or Position.
Clickable employee profile pictures
You can now click an employee’s profile picture to open their full profile. Pictures appear when “Show Profile Pictures for Employees” option is checked at “Settings” → “Account Settings.”
Auto-convert a paid break to unpaid
You can now set a maximum time on a manual paid break. If an employee goes over that limit, the break switches automatically to the unpaid break you selected.
When you create the break rule, you choose the maximum time and which unpaid break it switches to. This lives at “Settings” → “Break Rules.”
See how to convert a paid break to unpaid.
Time off revision history
Administrators can now view the history of changes to employee time off requests from the Buddy Punch website. Under “Revision History,” you can see changes to the hours or time off type, as well as any notes that were added.
You can open a request from the time off calendar (“Time Off” in the top navigation) or from an employee’s time card (“Time Cards” in the top navigation, then “View All”). The history is at the bottom of the page. You can view it on a computer or a mobile web browser. It isn’t available in the mobile app.
See how to view time off revision history.
Bulk activate or deactivate locations, departments, and positions
Administrators can now activate or deactivate multiple locations, departments, or positions at once. You select them with the checkboxes on the list page and click “Deactivate” or “Activate.”
Deactivated codes move to an “Inactive tab,” where you can reactivate them later if needed. They no longer show up as a dropdown option when you run reports. If you need a report on a deactivated code, reactivate it temporarily. Only administrators can bulk activate or deactivate these codes.
You’ll find this at “Settings” → “Locations,” “Settings” → “Department Codes,” and “Settings” → “Positions.” See how to bulk activate or deactivate locations, departments, or positions.
Auris (formerly Heartland Payroll) integration
You can now export an Auris-specific payroll file from Buddy Punch and upload it into Auris (formerly Heartland Payroll). The integration is an export/import process. Turn it on under “Settings” → “Integrations” with your Auris company code, then export from “Reports” → “Payroll Export.”
Workers on the export need an Employee ID in Buddy Punch that matches the employee ID in Auris. A company that processes payroll in Auris matches those IDs, exports in Auris format at pay time, and uploads the file into Auris. See how to integrate with Auris (Heartland) Payroll.
ADP RUN payroll integration
Buddy Punch now integrates with ADP RUN through an export/import process. You export the ADP RUN-specific file from Buddy Punch and upload it into ADP RUN. Enable it under “Settings” → “Integrations,” then export from “Reports” → “Payroll Export” using the “ADP RUN Format” option.
Workers on the export need an Employee ID in Buddy Punch that matches their File ID in ADP RUN. A company that runs payroll in ADP RUN enables the integration, matches those IDs, exports in ADP RUN Format, and imports the file on the “Pay Data Import” page in ADP RUN. See how to integrate with ADP RUN.
Estimated labor costs on the schedule
Administrators can now see estimated labor costs for published shifts in the “Weekly Schedule” view. The estimate appears at the bottom of the schedule page for published shifts that have an hourly pay rate assigned. The “View By” dropdown can show it by location, department, or position.
Turn it on by checking “Display pay rates on:” → “Schedule” on the “Settings” → “Pay Rates” page. Labor costs can currently only be seen for published schedules in the weekly view. Optional settings let employees see their own estimated labor costs and managers see their assigned workers’. Managers need scheduling “View” or “Edit & Publish” permissions to view labor costs.
See how to display labor costs on the schedule.
Sort the schedule by employee name
Administrators can now sort the schedule by employee name: First Name, Last Name, or Last Name, First Name. That sits alongside the existing options of sorting by location, department, or position.
Pick the sort from the “View By” dropdown after navigating to the schedule from the top navigation. When employees are sorted by name, you can click an employee’s name to drag and drop them and custom sort the list.
The sort is stored in browser cookies, so it’s remembered as long as you use the same browser. If you use a different browser or clear your cookies, you’ll need to sort again.
See how to sort employees on the schedule.
Redesigned mobile app menu
The Buddy Punch mobile app now has a redesigned menu, laid out to be cleaner and easier to navigate.
Estimated pay in the mobile app
Estimated pay is now available in the mobile app so employees can see their pay details without waiting until they are back at a desk. Estimated pay is the employee’s hourly pay rate multiplied by the number of hours worked. It isn’t a final payroll amount.
Break alerts
Break alerts notify people when an employee doesn’t take their break after a specified period. The alert can go to an employee, manager, and/or administrator by email, push notification, or both.
Create it under “Settings” → “Alerts & Reminders” with “+ Add a New Alert/Reminder” and “Reminder Type: Break Alert.” You choose the break (all breaks or a specific one), the number of hours before the alert triggers, and who receives it.
See the break alert help article.
Updated paystub details
Paystubs now show hours split by job code and make it easier to track leave balances. They also include a snapshot of total earnings, deductions, and any adjustments in one layout.
Non-taxable fringe benefits in Buddy Punch Payroll
Buddy Punch Payroll now has a non-taxable fringe benefits feature for miscellaneous perks such as education assistance, transportation reimbursement, and office supplies.
For background, see the help center’s explainer on taxable vs non-taxable fringe benefits.
