About Healthtree
Founded in December 1991, Healthtree began as a small health and wellness supplement store. Over the years, it evolved into a more diverse health and wellness retailer, focused on natural health products and services. A few years ago, a strategic refocus saw them return to their roots in healthcare supplements. Today, Healthtree operates with a team of 14 people, focused on online distribution across Canada. Their team consists of part-time, full-time, and remote workers.
When their manual clocking system failed, they needed to find a new one fast. A solution that would be quick to implement, easy for staff to use, affordable, and accurate. Buddy Punch was the perfect fit.
The Challenge
Before implementing Buddy Punch, Healthtree relied on a physical punch system, with handwritten time cards, manual schedules, and no specific system to manage paid time off (PTO) requests.
The system was tedious and time-consuming. It created unnecessary admin work, complicated employee scheduling, and slowed down payroll preparation. Organizing old time cards and finding space to store them was another challenge. When their manual punch clock system failed for the third time, Mark realized they no longer had an option – they needed an entirely new system.
“It’s definitely crazy, every single day is different. I never know what I’m going to get when I wake up. My day-to-day literally could be anything from running payroll to doing paperwork, to getting on calls with corporate. If we have an issue with our electricity or our wiring isn’t working, or our Wi-Fi goes out, that falls on me. I’m the fire putter-outter.”
The Solution
It was clear that Healthtree’s new system had to be more than a replacement for their manual punch system, as expensive hardware alternatives were no longer an option. Impact

The team’s time cards also have notably fewer errors, which means more accurate payroll processing. Employees are now able to check their own schedules, exchange shifts when needed, have a full view of the hours they’ve worked, and request time off without unnecessary back-and-forth.
As a result, Healthtree now has a simpler day-to-day operation, with a 25%+ reduction in admin work. This has given the team more time to focus on serving customers and growing the business.
