Buddy Punch is web based, so any device with a browser can use Buddy Punch.  The only thing required is an internet connection. 

Plan and set schedules days, weeks or months in advance

Workforce scheduling has never been so easy! Easily create jobs in minutes. Assign those jobs to your employees and notify them of their new assignment. Employees can then punch into those jobs and you’ll get the amount of time worked under each job for easier job costing and customer invoicing.

Push and email notifications

After you’ve created jobs for your employees and assigned them to shifts, let employees know about their new schedule by push notification, email or both.

Estimated vs actual hours

Compare scheduled job hours worked to actual hours worked directly from an employees time card.

GPS tracking

Ensure that employees are at the correct job location when they punch in or out by using the GPS feature. Their location will show up on their time card next to each punch.


Quickly review which employees are currently punched into shifts and which are not directly from your dashboard view. 

Also on your dashboard you can find the scheduled shifts for the day. Review them and make adjustments if needed.


If you have multiple offices or job sites, locations are a great way to track where an employee is spending their workday.

Create your locations, assign them to employees, and when employees go to punch in they’ll select their location – you can also assign locations to shifts. The amount of time spent at each location will be reflected on your employees time card and in your reports.

How to create, manage and apply a shift template.

By using the Template feature, you can create templated schedules for employees which can be applied to future shifts.

Rather than having to enter the same shift every week, you can create a schedule template for all or specific employes. Please keep in mind that the template option can only be used in the Week view.

Create a Template

  1. You will first want to create the shift you’d like to have a template for. Once created, you will need to select Options followed by Template and then Create.
  2. You will be asked to enter a name for the template. Try to include important descriptive information such as the employees name, the shift or any other crucial details.

Manage a Template

Now that you’ve created the template, you can make view it by going to Options –> Template –> Manage.

You will be able to view:

Name of the template
Who it was created by
When it was created
The total amount of shifts
The total amount of hours

You will also have the option to Edit the template and Delete it.

Apply a Template

Now that you have your template created and ready to go, you can apply it.

First you will want to navigate to the pay period you’d like the template to be applied to. You can use the left and right arrows to do this. You will then want to select Options followed by Template and then Apply.

You will then be able to view all the templates you’ve created. Pro Tip: If you have a lot of templates, use the search bar to find it quickly. Once you’ve found the correct template click “Apply to current week.”

Can I sync my schedule to iCal?

Here we’ll explain how to sync your schedule to iCal.

If you’d like to sync your schedule to iCal, you will want to start by selecting Schedule from the top navigation within Buddy Punch:

On the scheduling page, select the Options dropdown followed by Calendar Sync:

You will be presented with a popup that contains a URL. Select the Copy button to copy the URL to your clipboard:

Now that you’ve copied the URL, you’ll want to open iCal and select File followed by New Calendar Subscription:

A new box will pop up – this is where you’ll want to enter the URL that was previously copied from Buddy Punch. Once entered, select Subscribe:

You will be able to update the settings for the calendar such as the name, the location of the calendar, whether you want to receive alerts or not and how often the feed is refreshed:

When completed, you will see shifts as well as time off on your calendar as well as the name of the calendar on the left hand side of the page:

If you ever want to update your subscription, just right click on the name of the schedule followed by Subscription Settings. To delete the subscription, select Unsubscribe:

How do I change my schedule view?

You can change your schedule view by selecting the dropdown next to “View By:”

If you’d like to change your schedule view you can do so by selecting the dropdown option next to View By:

You have four different views to choose from. They include:

  • Employee
  • Location
  • Department Code
  • Position

You can further filter the view by using any of the filter options located at the top of the page.
